  1. The Bridge A team project by S 4

  2. Why we did it…….. Mrs Higgins told us that Saltersgate have permission to access the woods on the campus. Unfortunately it was not accessible for everyone.

  3. How we got started…………. We thought a bridge would be a good idea and got permission from BAM to go ahead. We researched various types of bridges and made some models.

  4. Next steps…………… We measured the ditch and worked out how much wood we needed. Then we went to Ms Lyons house to get the wood. She had some left over after an attic conversion.

  5. Cutting up the wood……… • We took the wood into the CDT room, measured the lengths, cut them up with saws and drilled holes for the screws.

  6. Bad News!! The bridge went missing from outside the CDT room. We managed to find it again but – Alas!! It was all broken up. We had to start rebuilding it.

  7. More Bad News!! • When we had finished rebuilding it we found out we didn’t have enough wood to finish the job. Ms Lyon saved the day again and gave us some more bits of her old roof.

  8. Fixing it in place…….. • We carried the bridge up to the ditch, dug away a bit of the soil and fastened it into the ground with strong posts to stop it moving (or stop it being STOLEN again)

  9. Almost there………. • Once the bridge was in place we screwed in the last planks

  10. Finishing Touches • We went off to the shops to buy some wood paint and then we all gave the bridge two coats of paint

  11. Carving our names with Pride When we’d finished the bridge we were proud of our achievement and decided to carve our initials into it to show we made it.

  12. Darren tests it out…..
