  1. Engineering Sciences and Technology Gears

  2. A gear is a wheel with teeth on its outer edge. The teeth of one gear mesh (or engage) with the teeth of another. Gears Gears meshing or engaged

  3. Spur Gears Driver and Driven • Two meshed gears always rotate in opposite directions. Gears Driven gear Driver gear

  4. Simple Gear Train • Multiple gears can be connected together to form a gear train. Each shaft carries only one gear wheel. Gears Intermediate gears are known as Idler Gears.

  5. Compound Gear Train If two gear wheels are mounted on a common shaft then it’s a Compound Gear train. Driver Compound Gear Gears Driven

  6. Generally, the Gear Ratio is calculated by counting the teeth of the two gears, and applying the following formula: Gear Ratio Gear ratio = Number of teeth on driven gear Number of teeth on driver gear Gears

  7. Worm and wheel • The worm gear is always the drive gear Worm gear and wheel Gears

  8. The rack and pinion gear is used to convert between rotary and linear motion. Rack and Pinion Heavy Duty Car Jack Gears

  9. Bevel gears are used to transfer drive through an angle of 90o. Bevel gears Gears Bevel Gears

  10. Power Output Efficiency % = Power Input Work Done = Force x Distance moved in the direction of the force Total Work Done Power = Total Time Taken X 100 Important Calculations :
