  2. The Life of Nicolaus Copernicus • He was born in 1473 in Poland. • He studied at the University of Krakow, and at many universities of Italy. • He worked as a medical doctor and studied astronomy in his spare time.

  3. Copernicus’s Theory • The sun, not the Earth, was the centre of the universe. • All other planets revolved around the sun.

  4. Effects of Copernicus’s Theory • Most astronomers thought his theory was wrong. • In 1687 Sir Isaac Newton proved his theory to be correct.

  5. Nicolaus Copernicus changed the way people view the universe and the solar system.
