  3. Standards Status of various 3D standards • CEA-2038 (Command-Driven Analog IR-Synchronized Active Eyewear) published on 11-May-2012 • ATSC developing 3D broadcasting standards in the US • Includes both frame-compatible and hybrid (Internet side channel) solutions

  4. Next Generation TV Standardization of next gen. broadcast • More resolution – 4K & 8K support • More user interaction • 3D support is expected • Standards being developed in ARIB, ATSC, DVB… • FOBTV.org formed for international coordination

  5. Ultra HD (UHD) CEA announced “Ultra HD” name, characteristics • At least 3840 x 2160 • At least 16:9 aspect ratio • At least one 3840 x 2160 input (cannot rely on up-scaling alone) • Some UHD Displays announced already • Many more expected by CES

  6. Ultra HD and 3D Ultra HD offers more 3D rendering power • An Ultra HD display with passive glasses can deliver full 1080p performance • An Ultra HD display can offer 1080p performance with auto-stereoscopic technologies

  7. 3D @ Home 3D @ Home merged with i3DS (International 3D Society) • Mainly focused on promotions • Focused on the content side • Less focused on standardization

  8. SG1 Opportunities • No progress on a 3D terminology NP since the Dallas AGS meeting • Combining 3D and UHD offers more opportunities for definitions • Are there other advocates who would like to move this forward? • UHD and auto-stereoscopic technologies offer new opportunities
