Revisions to the Form National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Major Changes: • Section 10 Geographic Data • To allow for lat/long coordinates • Property Owner Information deleted • To protect Personally Identifiable Information • Smaller Changes • Simplified overall formatting • Section pages on bottom • Deleted some fields

Formatting Adjustments National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • All text in Times New Roman 12 point font • Bigger checkboxes • Reduced number of columns, boxes, tables, etc. • Section and page numbers on the bottom. • It looks a little clunky and contains more pages, but it “should” be easier to fill in • The form doesn’t need continuation sheets, but continuation sheets are still acceptable. If you like them, use them.

  5. Changes by section Sections 1 & 2: National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Moved MPS name to section 1 • Deleted state, code, county code, and zip code fields • Erika will talk about the Not for Publication boxes later

  6. Section 3: National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Added a line for Applicable Criteria on page 1 • This same information is required in section 8

  7. Section 7: National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Replaced 4 materials (foundation, walls, roof, and other to just: Principal exterior material • Modified the instructions for the summary paragraph

  8. Section 8: National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Modified Summary Paragraph instructions to include period of significance and criteria considerations • Deleted “Developmental history/additional information” section

  9. Section 10: National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Now allow the option of either UTM OR Lat/long coordinates • Added areas for datum for both UTM and lat/long

  10. Photograph Section: National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Changed instructions for photographs a bit • Labeled the photo log area

  11. Owner Information National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • In accordance with OMB’s initiative to minimize Personally Identifiable Information, we have eliminated this section.

  13. “Not for Publication” National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Under “2. Location” there is a box that says, “Not for Publication”. • Section 304: the Secretary can withhold information about the character, location, or ownership, of a property if disclosure may: 1) cause an invasion of privacy, 2) risk harm to the resource 3) impede the use of a traditional religious site by practitioners.

  14. How do we use 304? National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Generally used for archeological properties • Protects properties from looting • Can also use ARPA

  15. What information should be withheld ? National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior • Often locational information: maps, photos, text • Clearly mark anything that should be withheld at the beginning of the nomination process • Release what can be released
