  2. Definition of a Volunteer • A person who chooses FREELY to do or OFFERS to do something • A person who chooses FREELY to enter military services without being compelled to do so by law • A person who chooses FREELY to enter into any transaction with no promise of compensation

  3. An Organization • An organization is People • People work toward the organization’s goal • People with enthusiasm and dedication to those goals make the organization succeed • A great part of the organization’s team is made up of . . . • VOLUNTEERS

  4. The Seventh-day Adventist Church • We are part of a great organization – The Seventh-day Adventist Church • The Organization’s goals is to have a successful Sabbath School • Made up of a great team called . . . • VOLUNTEERS

  5. Working Together in the Local Church • As Christians work together in a local congregation, right ATTITUDES are necessary. • All the talent in the world cannot make up for wrong ATTITUDES. • With right ATTITUDES, our efforts in the service to the Lord are enhanced

  6. BENEFITS? BENEFITS?VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE • No pay check at end of week, month, year • No vacation time accrual • No time and a half for overtime • Sometimes No recognition • Sometimes No appreciation

  7. Nose-High vs Nose-Down Attitudes • When an airplane is climbing, it has a nose-high attitude. • When an airplane is diving, it has a nose-down attitude. • Pilots are concerned about the attitude of airplanes, it indicates its performance.

  8. Right Attitudes • Christians working together in local congregation, right attitudes are necessary. • All the talent in the world cannot make up for wrong attitudes. • With the right attitude, your efforts in service to the Lord are enhanced • Live up to your full potential

  9. A True Story! I walked up to a church one Sabbath morning before Sabbath School. It was cold! As I approached the church, the door flew wide open – out stepped the Sabbath Greeter – huge smile, warm hug, arm full of bulletins. “Happy Sabbath! I’m so glad to see you.” WOW! What was prominent? Her ATTITUDE!

ATTITUDES • Our Attitudes are like the rudder of a ship. • You will either be ruled by the rudder, or you will be ruled by the rocks.- Wayne Cordeiro. • A poor Attitude in the midst of the storm can cause the storm to rage inside for a lifetime. • A good Attitude releases the Lord to do His work.

Attitude Handbook • Pilots have an Instructor’s Manual on “Attitude Flying” • Jesus has a Handbook about Attitude Living – The B-i-b-l-e • Before Jesus taught His disciples about miracles, discipling, how to work with the Pharisees • He gave them a class in Attitudes, called . . . • The Beatitudes

  12. ROLE PLAYGREETER SCENARIO • It was summertime when “Sister I’ll Be Happy To Do It” said she’d be a Greeter. Summer has turned to cold Winter, and it’s her Sabbath to greet. She’s on duty! Role Play Wrong Attitude vs. Right Attitude Audience Participation

  13. ROLE PLAYSUPERINTENDENT SCENARIO Nobody cooperated with Brother “Let’s Do It for Jesus”. No one returned his phone calls. This Sabbath morning there’s no special music – nothing! Brother “LDIFJ” is left all alone. Role Play: How To Handle Situation Wrong Attitude vs. Right Attitude Audience Participation

  14. ROLE PLAYMISSION STORY TELLER SCENARIO – Presenting the Mission Story Superintendent called Sister “Who” Friday, right at sundown. Would she give the Mission Story? The Mission Quarterly was given to her at Choir Rehearsal that night. Role Play: How to Give Mission Story Wrong Attitude vs. Right Attitude Audience Participation

  16. ROLE PLAYPersonal Ministries Leader SCENARIO Church doesn’t see the need to do any personal ministries in neighborhood around church.   19. Sign on wall of gas station“why customers quit” • 1% die • 2% move • 5% leave because of location • 7% production dissatisfaction • 84% an attitude or indifference shown to them by one of the employees

  20. Ask Yourself • Is there a possibility that the Attitudes of the Volunteer are affecting our “customers” – our Sabbath School members? • Could there be room for improvement in our Attitudes? • Our Personalities?
