Who Is SCORE? • About SCORE • SCORE was formed in 1964 as a resource partner of the Small Business Administration whose mission is to help aspiring and existing businesses succeed. • Facts • 13,000 volunteers across 360 chapters • 360,000 people served annually • 58,600 new businesses created in 2010 • 71,400 jobs created in 2010 (1 in 7 SCORE clients creates a job)

  15. What is the key business driver in America? Small Business • 27 million small businesses in America • 99% of all employers • Most less than $100,000 in annual sales (~75%) • Key to job growth • About ½ of private workforce employed by small business

What are the important success factors for small business success? • Many factors necessary for success • A business idea with a competitive edge • A sound business plan • Strong marketing • Legal structure • Management • A small business can’t be expert in all areas – it needs a team of advisors to help

SCORE will provide: • Mentoring SCORE will provide free face-to-face counseling through its 13,000 volunteers across all its 360 chapters • Workshops SCORE will offer a myriad of educational workshops covering all aspects of a new business – business planning, financing, marketing, etc. • Roundtables SCORE will host facilitated peer sessions to small groups of entrepreneurs

Homework and counseling are a part of the workshop process. • Session 1: Business Basics • Session 2: Business Concepts • Session 3: Marketing • Session 4: Financial Projections • Session 5: Funding Sources and Next Steps • These classes blend counseling with ongoing mentoring

When your clientele asks about help for going into business you can: • Discuss SCORE • Recommend they call the local SCORE office • Help the client complete a Request For Assistance card • Also: • Display SCORE literature • Set up with SCORE on site counselors • Coordinate the use of your facility for selected training
