  3. War Bonds – WW1 & WW2 • The government needed money to finance the war effort. It borrowed money by selling savings bonds for a certain amount and after a certain period of time the owner of the bond could cash them for the face value. • You could buy a bond for $25.00 and 10 years later it would be worth 50.00. The government would pay the $50.00.

  5. Persuasion • Persuasion is the influence of beliefs, attitudes, intentions, motivations, or behaviors. Some examples of persuasion are • A waiter at the restaurant asks, 'Is there anything else I can get you?

  6. Propaganda • Derogatory information of biased or misleading nature used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view

Probably every conflict is fought on at least two grounds: the battlefield and the minds of the people via propaganda. • The “good guys” and the “bad guys” can often both be guilty of misleading their people with distortions, exaggerations, subjectivity, inaccuracy and even fabrications, in order to receive support and a sense of legitimacy

  14. Jack – The propagandist • Jack is a link to the moral and ‘real life’ connection of the novel with regards to propaganda • Jack uses the fear of pain upon the other boys, making certain individuals among the boys entice others
