  2. Homes • The Southwest indians lived in pueblos or hogans. Hogans were made of sticks and mud. The door always faced east towards the rising sun. The pueblos were built high above the desert floor on large steep hills called mesas.They were made of wet clay or mud. Pueblos together look like apartment buildings.

  3. Food • The Southwest indians dried corn into flour. After mixing this corn and flour with water, they baked paper thin pieces of bread called Piki.They also harvested corn, beans, and squash or pumpkins.

  4. Clothing • The Southwest indians wear clothing made with goat hair. Most girls wear a simple cotton dress colored blue with die from sunflower seeds. On their feet they wear moccasins made of animal skin.

  5. Important Facts • The Southwest indians had kachina dolls that they thought held spirits. They also had a church-like building called a kiva. Woman were not allowed to enter kivas only on special occasions.
