  4. Functionalities Or the Tools • Analyze HTML syntax. • Verify Regular Links. • It checks out if the link is “clickable”. It does not check whether the final destination of the link is correct or not. • Verify Image Links • This option will verify if the link loads something. The final destination may not be an image. It verifies the links to images are working.

  5. Functionalities Or the Tools (Cont’d) • Generate Word Counts. • Number of words, average word length, number of unique words are presented. Includes only plain text not any words that are images. • Spell Check non-HTML text. • Only plain text. • Estimated Download Speeds • Various connection speeds.

  6. Functionalities or The Tools (Cont’d) • Search Engine Compatibility • Checks how well the page assist to a search engine and indexing robots. Analyses the META tag. • Check Site Link Popularity • This option queries Altavista-Search Engine to see how many other pages have links to this page. It will include your own pages!

  11. Comments on the results • Hebatgila.com • The download speed was reasonable: • It took 0.19sec with 56k • Reduced to 0.03sec with T1 • Couldn’t recognize special names with spell check • HeBat -> Suggestions: Shebat,Heat etc.. • Suggestions for search engine compatibility.

Comments on the results (cont’d) • Sice.umkc.edu/~oguzn • Bigger file size • 6959 bytes compared to the previous web page,which is about 577 bytes, therefore: • Longer estimated download speed: • 1.99 sec with 56k, 0.35 sec with T1. • Same problems with spelling check • Working links. • Site popularity • Two pages have links to this page

Comments on the results (cont’d) • Amazon.com • Could not verify large sized web pages: • I’m sorry, but your web page is 60961 bytes… • Finally their own web page watson.addy.com • Nobody is perfect, a lot of errors found in syntax and style analysis. • Spell check is unreliable. • Suggestions for the engine compatibility ???????

Final thoughts about the tool • At the first glance the tool works fine but: • When analyzed deeper, the problems become clear • Spell check is unreliable • Their own web site does not have search engine compatibility (customer problems) • The errors in the source code may not be actual “errors”. • Not all links are tested • I.e mailto and news links are not tested (link verification in watson.addy.com) • Cannot check a lot of links

  15. On the other hand • It is easy to understand the results • It is easy to use the tool. • Just need to enter the url • The results are received fast. • It will try and verify certain sized web pages • Link verification works fair.
