  2. First Word of EVERY Sentence • That dog knows lots of tricks. It will shake hands or roll over if you tell it to. • “I went to Sonic after school yesterday. I ordered a milkshake,” she declared. • Is it true that English is one of the hardest languages to learn? • “Stop!” she screamed as the child ran towards the street.

  3. The Pronoun “I.” • This week I have two papers to write. • I have never been to Europe. • “He and I will never get along,” I whispered to my best friend as Fred walked into the room.

  4. Proper Nouns and Names of People & Places • Fayette Middle School, Jones Law Firm • Alabama, Fayette, Newtonville • Michael Jordan, Julia Roberts, Beyonce • Karen, Doug, Felicia, Jose • Ms. Kirk, Mr. Hannah, Coach Trull • Eiffel Tower, Lincoln Memorial, Bay Bridge

  10. Academic Courses • Do NOT capitalize the names of school subjects, unless they are languages or they have a number after them. • Examples… • English, Spanish, Latin • mathematics, history, science, computer • Algebra I, History 101, Art II

Titles of people – Mr., Mrs., Mayor Nelson, President Obama, Dr. Williams • Relationships – Uncle Fred, Mom and Dad, Grandma Lowery • Important words in titles, magazines, newspapers, stories, movies, artwork, television, and music. • DO NOT capitalize articles (a, an, the), conjunctions (but, so, yet, for, nor, or), or prepositions (by, on, with).
