  3. Self-control in life • Proverbs deals with wisdom in every area of a person’s life. • Self-control refers to ‘wise decisions’, especially compared to ‘rash decisions’ made by those who neglect the principles in Proverbs.

  4. True Wisdom is ultimately… • Not dependent on education • Not dependent on physical age • Not dependent on wealth • Not dependent on family background • Not dependent on work situation • Not dependent on church environment

  5. Prov 25.28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control NLT A person without self-control is as defenseless as a city with broken-down walls.

  6. Controlling the tongue • Prov 11.12 A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue. • Prov 29.20 NLT There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking.

  7. Prov 17.27-28 A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered. Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.
