  1. STF 281 Validation NGN R1 Pietro Schicker

  2. Scope (1) Verification of the PSDN/ISDN emulation • based on ETSI eISDN specifications • from NGN R1 requirements Provide widely used set of «CARRIER CLASS SERVICES»

  3. Scope (2) • Verification is based on a review ofrelevant existing or emerging standards • Assures that the migration between existing implementations and the NGN is possible

  4. Members of STF 281 Pietro Schicker (Swisscom) Scott Cadzow (Cadzow Communications) Esbjörn Engberg (Ericsson) Steve Randall (PQM Consultants) Peter Schmitting (FSCOM)

  5. Base of where we go Identification of documents Verification basic services(not yet complete) Verification of all services Modeling of selected services Final draft of TR for review Completion of work TISPAN#5bis TISPAN#6 TISPAN#6bis TISPAN#7 TISPAN#8 Schedule

  6. Milestone B Progress Report, with the description of the network services support, identifica-tion of potential issues for PSTN Emula-tion Subsystem (PES) emulation and preliminary draft of DTR/TISPAN-03033-NGN-R1, including, at least ToC, scope, structure, for review by TISPAN#6 (9-13 May), ready on 29 April 2005.

  7. Scenarios for NGN R1 (1) Scenario 1: ISDN/PSTN user attached to ISDN/PSTN network initiates call to ISDN/PSTN user attached to NGN

  8. Scenario from presentation at TISPAN #5-bis Scenario 1: ISDN/PSTN call to NGN user

  9. Scenarios for NGN R1 (2) Scenario 2: ISDN/PSTN user attached to NGN initiates call to ISDN/PSTN user attached to ISDN/PSTN network

  10. Scenarios for NGN R1 (3) Scenario 3: ISDN/PSTN user attached to NGN initiates call to ISDN/PSTN user attached to NGN

  11. Scenarios for NGN R1 (4) Scenario 4: ISDN/PSTN user attached to ISDN/PSTN network initiates call to ISDN/PSTN user attached to ISDN/ PSTN network, the call/connection setup passes through an NGN

  12. Carrier Class Services (1) Basic transfer services • 64 kbit/s (unrestricted, clearchannel) • 3.1 kbit/s audio for • Modem • Telefax Group 2/3 • Speech

  13. Carrier Class Services (2) Basic call services • Establish call for basic transfer service • Release call

  14. Carrier Class Services (3) Supplementary services • Calling Line Identification Presentation (CLIP) • Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR) • Connected Line Identification Presentation (COLP) • Connected Line Identification Restriction (COLR) • Terminal Portability (TP) • Diversion supplementary service • Three-Party etc.

  15. Carrier Class Services (4) Regulatory services • Lawful Interception (LI) • International Emergency Preference Scheme (IEPS) • Malicious Call Identification (MCID)

  16. Functional Entity Diagram

  17. Tasks for STF 281 Verification of PSTN/ISDN emulation for «Carrier Class Services», i.e.,

  18. Verification of the Basic Transfer Services • Media gateway functionality of an AGF at reference point (a, b, c, d) • Media gateway functionality of an RGF at reference point (e) • Trunking media gateway functionality of an MGF at reference point (g) • Resource management functionality of the interface at reference point (f)

  19. Media gateway functionality of an AGF at reference point (b) This may involve: • assessment whether the AGW can handle the PSTN control stream (e.g., DTMF in both directions, register recall, etc.) • assessment whether the AGW can handle the «Carrier Class» data streams exc. 64 kbit/s • assessment whether the specified SDP part of SIP leads to successful negotiations for the «Carrier Class» data streams DES03009 & DES03019 might give answers.

  20. Media gateway functionality of an AGF at reference point (c) This may involve: • assessment whether the AGW can handle the ISDN control stream (e.g., Q.931, Q.921 including TEI management and line activation, etc.) • assessment whether the AGW can handle all «Carrier Class» data streams • assessment whether the specified SDP part of SIP leads to successful negotiations for all «Carrier Class» data streams DES03009 & DES03019 might give answers.

  21. Verification of theBasic Call Services • Signalling capability of an AGF at reference point (a, b, c, d); the signalling capability includes the signalling towards a TE attached to the AGF as well as the signalling towards the AGCF. • Signalling capability of an RGF at reference point (e); the signalling capability includes the signalling towards a TE attached to the AGF as well as the signalling towards the AGCF. • Signalling capability of an SGF at reference point (h, i, j, k) • Signalling capability of an THGF at reference point (l)

  22. Signalling capability of an AGF at reference point (b) This may involve • assessment whether the procedures to communicate with the relevant H.248 features (including packages) are specified and complete; • assessment whether all line signals (e.g., ringing, DTMF in-call and out-call, register recall, etc.) can be relayed to or from the AGCF; DES03009 might give answers.

  23. Signalling capability of an SGF at reference point (i) This may involve • assessment whether the procedures to communicate with the relevant H.248 features (including packages) are specified and complete; • assessment whether the references to MTP, ISUP, TUP, TUP+, etc. are sufficient or whether further specifications are required; There might exist a WI that could give answers.

  24. Verification of theSupplementary Services Step 1: Identification of the Supplementary Services to be verified Step 2: Verification of the selected Supplementary Services

  25. Essential for TISPAN#6 That WG3 approves: • the Scope of DTR-03033 • the «Carrier Class Services» identified • the method of approach and as a bonus: • helps with the identification of select supplementary services to be verified

  26. Next Steps • Identify existing ETSI standards or the WI for emerging ETSI standards that define packages, profiles, and procedures at the reference points • identify select supplementary services • start the verification on selected supplementary services

  27. Next Steps • Identify existing ETSI standards or the WI for emerging ETSI standards that define packages, profiles, and procedures at the reference points • identify select supplementary services • start the verification on selected supplementary services THANK YOU
