  1. T.J. and Rafael Cheetah and Gorilla

  2. There are five different groups of animals with vertebrates. • Mammals • Reptiles • Fish • Amphibians • Birds

  3. Both Cheetah and Gorilla are mammals.

  4. Most mammals: • are warm-blooded • have hair or fur • give birth to live young • feed their babies with mother’s milk • breathe through lungs

  5. Cheetah Cheetahs are fast runners. Cheetahs are the sprinters of the cat world. Their bodies are designed to run very fast for fairly short distances. This allows them to catch prey that other big cats can’t get.

  6. Cheetahs • Cheetahs are quite vocal, making a unique, bird-like sound called a “chirrup” when they’re excited. Mothers use the same sound to call their cubs. They also purr, growl, snarl, hiss, cough, and moan.

  7. Cheetah Cheetahs protect their babies so that their prey does not harm them. Mothers move cubs to new hiding places every few days. At 5-6 weeks, cubs follow the mother and begin eating from their kills.

  8. Cubs are smoky in color. They have a mantle running down their backs. This mantle is thought to camouflage cubs in grass. Cheetah

  9. Cheetah Cheetahs are the fastest land animal so that they can run down and catch their enemies. The cheetah’s slender, long-legged body is built for speed.

  10. Gorilla’s life • Gorillas have long arms. These muscular powerful arms grab plants and strip bark from trees. They have strong jaws that mash fruit.

  11. Gorillas like to walk using their hands as well as their legs. Their arms are much longer than their legs. They can use the backs of their fingers like extra feet when they walk. Gorillas and chimpanzees are the only animals able to knuckle walk. Gorilla

  12. Gorilla • A group of gorillas living together is called a “troop.” There can be 5 to 30 gorillas in one troop. They are led by a strong male known as a "silverback." His job is a big one. He is responsible for the safety of the troop.

  13. A gorilla will beat his chest with cupped hands to make a loud noise. He will scream. Show his teeth. Then he will charge forward. Sometimes he will break off branches and shake them at the enemy. He does this to scare away enemies. Gorilla

  14. We hope you liked our power point on the Gorilla and Cheetah.
