  2. Outline • Introduction • System Design • Design of Wireless sensing cluster • Routing cluster and protocol design • Client/Server mode and data access • Evaluation of WSN performance • Conclusions

  3. Introduction • WSN is an efficient approach for monitoring large-scale coastal beach with densely distributed smart nodes. • Aquaculture environment is becoming worse and worse. • Traditionally, culturists use portable water quality measuring meter to test breeding water of marine shellfish.

  4. System Design(1/2) • Wireless sensing nodes • Sink nodes • Routing nodes • GPRS node • Data monitoring base station • Data server • Terminals

  5. System Design(2/2)

  6. Design of Wireless sensing cluster A.Design of Double-chain Topology B. Sensing Node C. Sink node

  7. A. Design of Double-chain Topology

  8. B. Sensing Node

  9. C. Sink node • Collect data from sensing nodes 2. Rearrange data and forward them to DPRS node.

  10. Routing cluster and protocol design(1/2) • Hierarchical protocol standard 1.Physical layer provides hardware support for data collection and wireless channels. 2.Data link layer is responsible for the data transmission between two neighboring nodes. 3.Network layer is in charge of end-to-end data transmission. • 4. Application layer

  11. Routing cluster and protocol design(2/2) Routing node with cut-through transmission requires global pathway information predetermined. It does not provide service of data storage. Instead, store-forward transmission needs temporary data storage in routing node.

  12. Client/Server mode and data access • Data monitoring base station includes: 1.collecting water quality parameters 2.monitoring wireless node’s running performance 3.node configuration 4.data statistic operation

  13. Evaluation of WSN performance(1/3) • Display of routing status of WSN nodes

  14. Evaluation of WSN performance(2/3) • TESTING RESULT OF SENSOR ACCURACY

  15. Evaluation of WSN performance(3/3) • FRAME NUMBER RECEIVED BY BASE STATION FROM 8 SENSING NODES AND 1 SINK NODE IN ABOUT 6 HOURS

  16. Conclusions • Low-cost wireless sensor network based on multi-hop communication protocol is becoming an important approach for monitoring aquatic environment of marine shellfish and other species of fish. • integrate expert knowledge into the analysis of water quality parameters for the assessment of aquatic environment.
