Brachytherapy is usually recommended for early-stage cancer treatment that develops slowly. For high-risk cancer, brachytherapy with external radiation can be used. Brachytherapy, however, is not suitable sometimes. For instance, for the treatment of men with urinary problems or men with larger prostate glands, cannot be treated with this therapy. Based on EBRT techniques it is categorized in different types of therapy such as three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and proton beam radiation therapy. The 3D-CRT technique makes use of specialized computers to map the location of cancer and then uses radiation beams to target the cancer cells.

This therapy makes use of the advanced image- guided techniques to make delivery of large doses of radiation to a precise area. The proton beam therapy treatment focuses on beams of protons instead of X-rays on cancer.
