Structure and Demographics • 362 students grades 9 – 11 (first graduating class will be in 2012) • 97% African-American, 3% Latin American/Hispanic • 98% free or reduced lunch • 91% of students reside in the Austin Neighborhood. • Students enter VOISE reading at a 5th grade level and 6th grade level in math. • 22% of student population are students with special needs. • All 30 faculty members are Highly Qualified by NCLB standards and are certified by the state of Illinois in the content area they teach.

Next Steps • CPS rolled out a Blended Learning environment for Math based on the VOISE model in 6 elementary schools. • VOISE will pilot extended learning enrichment programs in order to increase college readiness through AP and college prep courses. • VOISE will lead the training and development for online/digital instruction for 24 high schools within CPS. • Senior year plan for students to have flexible schedule including classes that meet outside the walls of VOISE which will also include students taking college courses online through a partnership with Chicago City Colleges.

Students are given diagnostics to determine a student profile of academic needs and preferences called a Playlist Students take lessons in different modalities, and their daily Playlist Update quiz determines their possible next day lessons (e.g. Brian stays on skill, goes on to Skill 13, or goes on to Skill 25) Scheduling software recommends the best next skill, modality of instruction for that skill group, best lesson in that modality (e.g. online with Study Island), location, and teacher, based in part on the need to create viable groups Students and teachers get new schedules for the next day
