Self-Directed Learning (SDL)- any increase in knowledge, skill, accomplishment, or personal development that an individual selects and brings about by his or her own efforts using and method in any circumstance at any time. • Metacognitive- are learners who think about thinking and apply strategies to regulate and oversee their learning.

  3. Self-Directed + Metacognitive • Self-directed, metacognitive learners engage in three key processes: planning, monitoring, and evaluating their learning

  4. The GAME Plan • Set Goals • Take Action to meet those goals • Monitor progress toward achieving goals • Evaluate whether the goals were achieved and Extend your learning to new situation.

  5. Assessing Your Skills • Select an appropriate technology assessment tool • Perform and self-assessment • Identify and discuss gaps between what you know and what you should know.

  6. Assessment portfolios- are popular due largely to the belief that they represent an authentic form of assessing student learning. Combining artifacts of early work with well-polished examples is one way you can illustrate growth. • Employment portfolios- showcase achievement in relation to a desired position of profession. • Professional development portfolio- provides a place for you to collect and reflect on artifacts that document your professional growth over time from a very personal point of view.

  7. Steps in Portfolio Development • Define your purpose , audience, distribution medium, and development tool. • Design your portfolio organization and layout. • Develop the portfolio. • Deliver it to its intended audience.

  8. Summary of Portfolio Development • Easy to control • Easy to cross-reference • Easy to repurpose • Less bulky and take up less physical storage space than conventional collections • Easy to distribute
