2. The Basics Two consecutive 24-hour shifts on duty, followed by four consecutive twenty-four hour days off duty. Modified Detroit: XOXOXOX OOOO 48/96 XXOOOO

5. M.D. and 48/96 are both: 3 Platoon, ABC 56 hours per week (without K-days)

6. Employee/Family Benefits Four-day periods off: MD – 40 per year 48/96 – 60 per year (50% increase) Mornings at Home (not traveling to or from work) MD – 3 of every 9, 120 per year 48/96 – 3 of every 6, 180 per year (50% increase)

9. Commute Reduction All 50 members drive 2435 miles for one round trip. At $4.17 per gallon and 18 mpg, this is $564 At 9 shifts per month, this is $5,076 At 12 months per year, this is $60,923 Average of $ 1,218 per member. 48/96 would save an average of $609 per member, per year.

10. Benefits Cont’d Increased productivity at work. Increased productivity at home. Decrease in duplicated work (rig checks, shopping). Improved morale (U of W study w/ Woodinville). Reduction in shift trades (151 to 71 for Woodinville). Increased approval rating after trial period.

11. Transition Go from a 27-day cycle to a 24-day cycle (13.5 cycles per year to 15.2 cycles per year). Address the daily schedule for second shift.

12. Concerns over Fatigue Those working the 48/96 report less fatigue than working the MD. Members stated that their levels of fatigue were comparable or higher than the 2nd shift on the 48/96. 50% increase in rest periods (4-days). 50% increase in “sleep in days”. More forgiving than the MD in working OT or trades. Can work 20 additional shifts per year and still have the same number of 4-day periods as the MD.
