  4. Valley Forge • Washington set up camp in Valley Forge. • Long, hard winter • Ran low on decent food. • Many deserted. • Eventually built shelter • Left after Winter

  5. Heroes during the war • Marquis De Lafayette, a French general, sent a ship full of soldiers • Fredrich Von Steuben, a German general, trained the continental army • Juan De Miralles, representative of Spain, sent funds to the colonies. • Phyllis Wheatly wrote poems for the army. • Bernando de Galvez raised an army that captured British forts.
