  1. What You Need to Know About Nitrous Oxide at the Dental Office

  2. Nitrous Oxide At The Dental Office • If you feel anxious about being in the dental office, sedation for dentistry can help. There are many types of sedation that you can look into, depending on the reason you're using it for.  • Your dentist can explain to you in greater detail how each one works and which one is most appropriate for your case. One common sedation used at the dental office is nitrous oxide. • Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a mild sedation. It's safe for use even for young children.

  3. Here are some of the Things Worth Knowing About the Use of Nitrous Oxide for Dental Treatments:

  4. It Won't Necessarily Make You Laugh • While it's commonly known as the laughing gas, nitrous oxide won't make you burst into laughter after your dentist administers it. • Instead, it'll make you feel relaxed and probably a bit light-headed. You'll also feel numbness throughout your body.

  5. The Procedure Is Simple, Quick, and Painless • With laughing gas, there's no need to use needles. You'll wear a mask and from there, inhale the sedative. • You need to breathe normally so your lungs can absorb the gas and for it to take effect. • Once your dentist removes the mask, you need to continue inhaling and exhaling normally and the effects of the gas will immediately wear off.

  6. It's Safe To Use • Nitrous oxide is one of the most common sedatives used at the dental office. • It's colorless, odorless, and is safe to use even for toddlers. Like any drug, misuse and overuse can be dangerous. • But, when used properly, most side effects, such as vomiting and headaches, are mild and reversible.

  7. It'll Leave You Conscious Throughout Your Visit • Since laughing gas is mild, you'll remain conscious throughout your treatment. You'll be able to communicate with your dentist and respond should they have any questions. • You don't need to have someone to take you to the dental office or bring you back home. • But having company should be okay if it'll make you feel even more relaxed.
