  1. How to Avoid Dental Enamel Erosion

  2. Dental Enamel Erosion • The dental enamel is strong, but it isn’t immune to damage.  • Too much intake of sugar and starch can cause harmful bacteria to build up on tooth surfaces. These bacteria combine with acids and attack the enamel.  • When the enamel erodes, the tooth can become more sensitive. It can also look darker as the yellowish layer below it becomes more visible. But there are ways to protect the enamel.

  3. Here are some Important Tips to Slow Down Dental Enamel Erosion:

  4. Drink Plenty of Water • Water helps flush down debris from tooth surfaces and keeps them from accumulating. • It also stimulates the flow of saliva in the mouth. Saliva helps replenish minerals that the teeth are using. • It helps teeth fight acids and doesn’t leave behind stains.

  5. Reduce Intake Of Sugary And Starchy Food • You don’t have to remove sugar and starch from your diet but indulge moderately. • Consider taking them during mealtimes where there’s more saliva in the mouth. • Don’t forget to drink plain water to help remove deposits in the mouth.

  6. Brush and Floss Regularly • Good oral hygiene habits are crucial to preventing dental erosion. • Plaque, the bacteria-laden film, forms when food debris lingers on tooth surfaces. • Plaque later turns into tartar, which is harder to remove and makes cleaning teeth more difficult.

  7. Limit Consumption of Acidic Beverages • Acidic beverages can also cause the enamel to thin faster. Try using a straw to minimize exposure of your teeth to the liquids. • Drink water or rinse your mouth with plain water afterward. • Chewing calcium-rich snacks, such as cheese, can also help reduce acid levels in the mouth.

  8. Avoid Aggressive Brushing • Brushing too hard doesn’t guarantee better cleaning. It might only cause the enamel to erode. • Wait for at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after meals. • Teeth are soft due to acid exposure and are more vulnerable right after eating.

  9. Protect your teeth from erosion. You can keep your smile in great shape by making simple lifestyle changes and boosting your dental care habits. • Don’t forget to see your dentist for regular checkups and hygiene cleanings.
