  1. The Unstoppable Force That Is Women

  2. The Unstoppable Force That Is Women We’ve had to push hard through murky murk and forge with all our might, faith, and will to come out of the other end as unscathed as possible—despite the scores of other people’s narratives we are exposed to throughout our days, about who we are, what we value, suggesting our unworthiness of a quality lifestyle. They show up in our paychecks that fall woefully below equitability, in the poor quality of affordable housing, neighborhood services and amenities, as well as in inequitable healthcare services, quality childcare and educational opportunities.

  3. And then, there is the conversation about commerce—which is improving, as we take notice and graciously acknowledge—but there is still a ways to go. When there are “slip-ups,” they are pretty big. What amazes us most is the puzzling absence of thoughtfulness and cultural, gender, and historical sensitivities when major decisions (and lapses in basic common courtesies) are made by corporate America and our local and central governments on a daily basis. Glass ceilings, cement walls, blinders, and “redlines” are very real parts of our realities that people in power rarely (if ever) come up against. We shake our heads, sometimes voice our opinions publicly, and engage in deeper dialogue within our circles of family and close friends. We laugh (often to keep from crying) at the audacity, vote (when it’s not being suppressed) at the polls, and give deep thought to our purchasing decisions…then keep it moving. Our country desperately needs to expand its pool of thoughtful leadership. It starts with vigilant efforts to open opportunities for people who have actually walked in many shoes, have experienced many things—both good and outrageously ugly—who have mindfully shaped their worldview based upon the vastness of their personal human experiences, and earnestly care about the real world experiences of others.

  4. Our country is showing signs of being over and done with electing and reelecting the same kinds of “stewards”—white guys with limited worldviews. It’s also time for corporate America to share many more offices in the C-suite with people who have broader and deeper viewpoints— viewpoints that represent our real America…which, at the moment, is not so great. The tide is shifting…thankfully. We galvanized in a big way during the recent midterm elections. This movement is very promising. Across each of our individual stories are shared experiences that bring us together, and there is power in numbers. Female leaders in Congress and other positions of authority are stepping up to their rightful thrones and initiating the changes that we have all waited to see, despite an opposition laced with gross gender and ethnic profiling. An accusation we hear too often: Progressive women are loud-mouthed, aggressive lunatics who are trying to ruin our country with socialism. Sadly, people of both genders are quick to agree, because of our socio-political conditioning.

  5. As a dynamic motivational speaker and impassioned catalyst for women’s empowerment, Maria Dowd has tapped into her own personal missteps and wake-up calls to inspire women to be more courageous, wise, and enterprising—to design an amazing life built upon uncompromising values, enduring passions, their true genius and expertise, and with crystal clear visions of what they want and deserve.
