    2. Word Knowledge Time and Order Words—tell when things happen: Saturday Monday today afternoon Every Saturday the students took their crops to sell. What are other time/order words that you can think of? Why are these words important?

    3. Word Knowledge Suburbs perfect neighborhood mustard What do these words have in common? The students wanted to rebuild their neighborhood. Realize dried right try What do these words have in common? The students did not realize what a wonderful thing they were doing.

    5. Building Background The riots that occurred in LA in 1992 took place because a jury found four Caucasian police officers innocent of beating an African-American motorist, Rodney King. The major evidence in the case was a videotape that allegedly showed the officers beating the man. After the verdict was returned, many African-Americans stormed the streets in protest, destroying the part of LA described in the article.

    6. Building Background Cont. Ultimately the police officers were retried and found guilty. This article is about rebuilding a neighborhood after these devastating events.
