  1. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land”Ephesians 6:1-3 • Children are addressed directly • Given a sense of dignity and respect

  2. Live Under Our Parents • Children are not exempt from spiritual warfare • God gives parents to children to serve as their commanding officers

  3. Live Under Our Parents • Living under our parents authority prepares us to live under the authority of God • When a child obeys a parent they are obeying Jesus

  4. Lift Up Our Parents • Humbly accept their God given roles “Hear my son, your father’s instructions, and forsake not your mother’s teaching” (Proverbs 1:8).

  5. Lift Up Our Parents • Humbly accept their God given roles • Value their advice “Listen to your father who gave you life” (Proverbs 23:22). “A wise son hears his father’s instruction” (Proverbs 13:1).

  6. Lift Up Our Parents • Humbly accept their God given roles • Value their advice • Let them know you appreciate their efforts “When your mother is old, show her appreciation” (Proverbs 23:22).

Lift Up Our Parents • Humbly accept their God given roles • Value their advice • Let them know you appreciate their efforts • Meet their needs “But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God” (1 Timothy 5:4)
