Importance of English • English is the language of international communication. • The importance of English is shown in the amount of students learning English as a second language. • More than 90 % of the students in the European Union learn English in middle or high school (kind of like Spanish and the U.S.)

  3. Lingua Franca • Lingua Franca can be defined as a language of international communication (i.e. English). • As a result of expansion diffusion English is a dominant language. • English being the basic language of television and the internet forced all of its users to become familiar with the language.

  4. Vocabulary !  • Franglais the combination of French and English. • Spanglish  the combination of Spanish and English. • Denglish  the combination of German and English. • Isolated Language  a language unrelated to any other language, therefore it isn't attached to any language family. (i.e. Basque, it’s only spoken in Europe )
