Write a paper on one aspect of CALL. • Due June 12th 2500 words (target) • Check yellow sheet for departmental policy on late assignments. • For this paper, you will address the main issues covered in this course: • • How can technology be used to enhance language learning? • • Where does technology fit best in the complex process of learning a language? • • Does technology offer benefits beyond those available in a traditional classroom? • In order to approach the place of CALL in language learning, you will choose ONE specific area – reading/writing/speaking/listening/testing/vocab/culture/… – and critically assess the contribution that technology makes or can make. • In your paper, you will survey the current state of the art for the area you choose and use the questions above to critically assess the role of technology. • Please produce the paper in the form of a html file or Word document with links (along the lines of Horst et al.)

What is the role of technology -- teacher/stimulus/mediator • Where does technology fit best in the complex process of learning a language? What aspect of language learning is the technology augmenting? • Does technology offer benefits beyond those available in a traditional classroom? What can technology do that is not possible in the classroom?
