John Adams

John Adams presidential term lasted from March 4,1798 through March 4, 1801, he was the 2nd president. During his term Adams completed a mission called The XYZ Affair. The XYZ Affair was an incident that involved 3 ministers that were sent to France to negotiate an agreement to protect U.S shipping. Adams also passed a group of laws known as the Alien and Sedition Acts. One law that was passed was that residency was raised to 14 years to become a United States citizen. Another law that was passed was that any false article printed, about the government will be illegal.

James Madison

James Madison 4th president (1809-1817).

The War of 1812 was going on during his presidency.

Treaty of Ghent-The treaty ending the war.(1814)

Battle of New Orleans-one of the battles during the war of 1812.(1814)

Hartford Convention-The meeting to consider the problems of New England in the War of 1812.(1815)

Second Bank of U.S.-the goal of controlling changes in the value of currency by state banks.

Formed by a former Whig, Free-Soil, and Democratic party members.
