  2. The EHR was introduced with a view to improve patient care and care coordination. The EHR system has changed the healthcare landscape. Along with its many benefits, the electronic system of medical record keeping has its own shortcomings. Now, doctors are forced to spend more time on the computer entering patient data into the medical chart rather than providing a satisfying consultation experience for the patients. However, with the assistance of a medical transcription company physicians can benefit from timely documentation and more time with patients. Another major issue with regard to patient visit is that it is not easy for patients to remember everything a doctor tells them, and forgetting any medication or any other important medical information can be dangerous for the patient. So, to counter this issue, doctors across the US are recording their conversation with patients and encouraging them to review these recordings at home. Today, with access to smart phones and other devices, recording a doctor patient encounter is easy and this is a great option if it can help patients adhere to treatment regimens. This is the world of artificial intelligence and tech giants like Google, IBM and Amazon have developed speech recognition and machine learning technologies that make it easier for doctors to make audio recordings. Paul Barr, a researcher and professor at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, is developing an artificial intelligence solution that allows for routine audio recording of conversations between physicians and patients. The project is called ORALS (Open Recording Automated Logging System). It can process natural language to tag elements of the conversation considered most valuable for patients and the patient can review the transcribed file to view important medical information. This will help to improve patient care by minimizing paper work and also save time. Simple Recording with Smartphone In the US, there is no clarity regarding how many US healthcare providers are recording clinical conversations on a regular basis. But this practice is expected to grow gradually due to the patient demands for recording the physician -patient encounter. In Galveston, University of Texas Medical Branch donates digital recorders to patients that allow them to tape the doctor visit and share with family members. The director of the Oliver Centre for Patient Safety and Quality at the University, Meredith Masel said that this approach is good for patients as it prevents confusion or misunderstandings regarding medical information. The university started recording patient conversation from 2009 and it was very useful for cancer patients who found it difficult otherwise to remember the complex medical terminology. This approach is now widely used by neurologists and other physicians and the university has created a code in the EHR to identify when patients are recording. www.medicaltranscriptionservicecompany.com 918-221-7809

  3. Recording of doctor- patient encounter dates back to 1970 and many researches were done about this approach. Studies show that it helps to improve patient comprehension and memory and also ensure better treatment adherence. Today we have artificial intelligence that lets you record and transcribe quickly. Last November, Google researchers said that the company could use automatic recording and automatic transcribing technology to transcribe medical conversations with utmost accuracy. The researchers found the word error between the range of 18 to 20 which is considered acceptable considering the complexity of the work. Google is planning to work with Stanford University researchers to further develop the technology and help minimize the time providers have to spend typing into the EHR. At Dartmouth, Barr's ORALS helps patients to record the entire consultation on their smart phones. It also helps to organize, manage and review the transcript and family members can access the transcript. The researchers are seeking to add hyperlink that would enable patients to learn more on specific topics from trusted sources. Although this approach is beneficial for doctors and patients, it involves an element of risk related to cyber security and patient privacy. So, Dartmouth recommends storing the data on a secure central server that has limited access and is controlled by patients, not healthcare providers. Technology comes to the aid of humans ensuring efficiency, security and excellent results. That holds true for providers of medical transcription services as well. Dedicated medical transcription solutions focus on making the consultation experience more satisfying and fruitful for both physicians and patients. www.medicaltranscriptionservicecompany.com 918-221-7809
