  3. What’s It Like? Look at these pictures, how would you describe the Coastal Plains of Georgia?

  4. Describing the Coastal Plain • Hot and humid summers • Mild winters • Sandy soil • Ideal for farming • Land is very wide and flat.

  5. Animals of the Coastal Plains How good are you at identifying animals? These animals roam the wide open areas of the coastal plains. Wild Boars and Hogs They feed off of plants.

  7. Let’s Look at More Animals. What has a hard shell and hides in his home when scared? Did you know… The bog turtle is the rarest reptile in the state. An alligatory snapping turtle can grow up to 300 pounds!

  8. This tree is out state tree. Can you remember its name? Live Oak Saw Palmetto Look at the picture. How do you think it got its name? Small palm Small leaves Tiny teeth that like a saw blade Let’s Look at Coastal Plants

  9. Hangin’ Around What is that hanging on the trees? Spanish Moss It is also called an air plant. Do you think “air plant” is a good name? Why? It grows high in the tree tops and takes in all the nutrients it needs from the air.

  10. Endangered Animals of the Coastal Plains Pocket gophers are very RARE in this region. It is near extinction. You’ll rarely see it above ground. You can find it in tunnels under the earth.

  11. Riddle Time I’m a plant that grows on a tree. What am I? Spanish Moss I’m am rarely seen above ground. What am I? Pocket Gopher I’m the rarest reptile in the state. What am I? Bog Turtle I’m an animal that travels in a herd. What am I? Wild Hog I’m a plant with teeth-shaped leaves. What am I? Saw Palmetto
