  1. Session 2: The Personal Project Proposal Defining the Topic and Goal, making Specifications to evaluate the success of the project

  2. Objectives of lesson To understand the meaning of Topic and Goal in the Personal Project Look at a Topic/ Goal example to evaluate if the project could work Understand what we mean by Specifications in the Personal Project Be able to locate and complete the Personal Project Proposal (ManageBac by 21st September 2012)

  3. Goal and Topic Goal Based on the topic, it is a statement of what you hope to achieve It is measurable and achievable It has a clear link to an Area of Interaction Example: To raise awareness of the struggles of street dogs in everyday life Topic • Is the area the project...the theme of the project • Example: Street Dogs

  4. Specifications Criteria that helps you see if your project was successful; your goals were met. Measurable in some way. Example: Art exhibition of original paintings to raise awareness of the plight of street dogs and cause someone to take action

  5. Goal: Art exhibition of original paintings to raise awareness of the plight of street dogs and cause someone to take actionWhat are the Specifications for this goal? How are we going to measure the project’s success? We need to form Specifications that are measureable, attainable to see if the goal is successful. The goal actually has three parts: 1. Quality of the painting’s 2. Raise awareness of the issues street dogs face. 3. People taking action about the issues What Specifications can we make to test the above are successful?

  6. Specification examples: Targets (how will I know the Specification was successful?) Specifications (to evaluate the success of the Goal) The pictures must be of high quality as assessed by experts in that field More people are aware of the plight of street dogs Tools (to measure the success of the Specifications) • Rubric created to assess the quality by the experts • Survey before and after (eg the numbers that dies each day, what a dog has to through each) • Target of 80% • 60% of audience surveyed feel they know more than they did before about the plight of street dogs
