  2. * Government/Industry Operational Concept for the Evolution of Free Flight, Addendum 1: Free Flight Phase 1, Core Capabilities Limited Deployment, August 1998 NASSI Airport Configuration • Currently evaluating a web based tool (WebAirport) in respect to Core Capabilities Limited Deployment for CDM identified in FFP1 documentation* • System addresses capabilities identified *: • “Available information will need to be “pulled” from the system by users as opposed to “pushed” or automatically delivered. • Users outside the FAA will receive data over private or proprietary networks. • Data are displayed on individual work stations or personal computer monitors when requested by the user. • Inputs can be automatically collected data sources, data entered into automated systems by the FAA, and some externally provided sources.”

Airport Configuration Data Provided by the Tool • Weather Data • TAF, METAR • Includes trend indication • Ceiling, Visibility and Temperature/Dewpoint Trend Information • TWIP Character • TDWR Graphic ( Three locations and expanding to 43) • Altimeter • Runway(s) in Use • ATIS Information • Full message with current information letter. • 70 locations, 57 in US TAF-Terminal Weather Forecast TWIP-Terminal Weather Information for Pilots TDWR-Terminal Doppler Weather Radar METAR-Meteorological Aviation Routine ATIS-Automated terminal Information Service

Information Availability • Tool provides information for more than 4000 airports • 130 locations included in scroll list, other located by typing airport identifier • Includes some international locations • Tool is web based and accessible to all users • Updates are automatic with no refresh required • Information is near-real time • Information is updated automatically as received • Updates are time stamped

Analysis Documentation • Does the WebAirport tool meet FFP1 requirements • Define additional requirements • Identification and description of needed functionality • Additional data availability • Data field applicability and sufficiency to meet TFM requirements • User interaction and availability of data fields and airport information • Usability/accessibility of the web based tool • Technical assessment of response time and availability

Approach • The FAA has purchased a number of individual or seat licenses for evaluation purposes • Effort will evaluate tool effectiveness through user feedback, specifically: • User friendliness • Data reliability and usability of data fields • Timeliness of data • Computer Human Interface (CHI) and tools value towards CDM • Explore additional information requirements • Define how the information is best presented to users and to the FAA • User Evaluation • AOPA, NBAA, and ATA have provide initial feedback • Airline participation requested today • ATCSCC Specialists are currently evaluating the tool • Complete the evaluation by the end of February 2001
