Our Aims: • To consistently raise the level of achievement of students studying the subject by 2012-2013 • To equip students with the relevant skills for university and the work environment. • To consistently deliver outstanding lessons to students. • To provide a rewarding and enjoyable experience for students.

  4. Business Studies: Business and Economics is a popular and enjoyable subject at King David High School with students achieving above national average results. Meet the staff: • Mr Hodgson Head of Department • Miss McLaughlin Head of Economics • Mrs Airley Head of GCSE • Miss Callan Head of OCR Business

  5. What do we offer? OCR, GCSE and A-level • The Business Studies Department prepares pupils for GCSE and A level examinations. • In recent years there has been a considerable increase in pupil numbers at GCSE and A-level. • Over the last three years an average of over 40 pupils a year have opted to begin the study of the GCSE subject.

  6. What do we offer? OCR National Qualifications. • We now offer the OCR National qualification business studies for year 10-13. • This has been a major growth area in the department. This is reflected in the achievement of excellent results in recent years.

  7. Students: The Subject • It covers a wealth of business related topics such as the types of ownership, finance, objectives, leadership styles, motivation and pay, marketing, accounting and stock and quality control. • The pupils develop a foundation in the principle areas of business. • It can be then progressed at a later date, with many students going on to study the subject at university.

  8. Students: Business Studies • Why choose this subject? You may want to be the next Richard Branson or simply start a small business and be your own boss! • You will learn how to price, promote, source and develop your products or services. • You also learn how to make a profit!

  9. Students: Will it fit into my life? • Students often study Maths, Economics, ICT, Geography and Politics with this A-level. • Students often go on to study management courses at university. • Students often go in to paid employment with invaluable skills that they have developed over the duration of the course.

  10. Students: What skills will I learn? • How to assemble data and assess it. • How to investigate facts and use deduction. • How to put your point of view across fluently. • How to work as a team to achieve results.

  11. Our success story: • GCSE results • A-level results • Outstanding OCR results! • We have achieved excellent results. AQA ‘This A-level could get you started in Business’.

School trips: • As we believe that learning can take place outside of the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in a range of out of school activities. • We believe that students need to develop an experience of the work environment. • We have taken students on a range of school trips to reinforce learning objectives. Examples include: • Dublin • New York • Prague • Paris

  13. Young Enterprise • Students have to set up and run a business to make a product or service in order to make a profit. • Students have developed invaluable skills and made money for themselves! • This has been a huge success this year with students winning the ‘Most Innovative Product of the year award 2008’ and the ‘Chairman’s Choice Award for 2008’.
