  1. Japanese Tea Ceremony By: Alex Rocha

  2. Step 1 • This tea ceremony will be in honor of the sun, so it must be done while the sun is out and shining directly over you. This is so that your celebration can be done in maximum sunlight. • Inviting the guest will be the first step.

  3. Step 2 • The guest will walk through the garden and wash their hands before entering the house.

  4. Step 3 • They will then take their shoes off and bow before entering the home to show their respect.

  5. Step 4 • The host will then lead the guest to the room where the ceremony will take place. It must be a room where enough sunlight enters the room so that you do not need any light on and the only light source you are using is the sun.

  6. Step 5 • The guest will sit on a yellow and red mat representing the sun’s colors, and the host will bring out all of the utensils needed for the ceremony.

  7. Step 6 • The guest will then sit in front of the water heating source and watch as the host pours the water into the tea bowl. The host then stirs the tea bag around four times since the sun is believed to be 4 billion years old.

  8. Step 7 • The filled tea bowl will then be tapped three times since there are three letters in the word sun.

  9. Step 8 • The guest will drink their tea.

  10. Step 9 • After their tea is finished, the host will then wipe the bowl clean and pour some more tea in it and leave it outside for the sun to evaporate it. It is seen as a way for the sun to drink some tea as well.

  11. Step 10 • The guest will then get up and bow to the host as a sign of thanks and exit.
