  2. Description of the initiative Description of the initiative The organizingprinciple of this project is the promotion of sustainableagriculturethrough waste recycling for compost Saramacca - Suriname

Description of the initiative • Introduction of recycling of residential and commercial food waste • Thirty-five percent of solid waste in Greater Paramaribo consists of fresh fruits and vegetables • Potential amount of waste that can be composted per day is 11 ton, which can generate 2,5 ton compost per day • Partnership between government and waste collectors to promote recycling for compost

  4. Description of the initiative • Awareness raising on recycling and suistainable soil and crop management with compost • Public education about the benefits of recycling food waste for compost • Set up demonstration sites to showcase the benefits of compost for agriculture

  5. Description of the initiative • Setting-up commercial composting plant to facilitate transition to sustainable agriculture
