  2. Britain Colonizes East coast of North America is colonized by various British groups

Spanish Colonize • Columbus lands in the Bahamas • Conquer the area of Florida • Conquer the island of Hispaniola (modern Haiti and Dominican Republic) as the base of operations for Spanish operations • Move quickly to Mexico and Peru • Cortes- Aztecs in Mexico • Pizarro- Incas in Peru • Move into west coast of North and South America

  5. Portuguese Colonize • Portuguese take control of Brazil in South America

  6. French Colonize • The French will first grab about half of North America starting on the border of British colonies and moving west to meet the Spanish territory at about Texas • They French will also take a small section of land in South America next to the Dutch, French Guiana

  7. Dutch Colonize • Dutch grab a small section of land in South America which they will name Guiana

  8. Russian’s Colonize • Russian’s colonize territory in North America • Alaska • Washington • Oregon

Europeans in the Pacific • Australia • Dutch the first recorded European nation to map its coast • Determined it useless for trade or settlement • Dry, arid landscape unfaverable • several years before any Europeans made lasting connections in Australia • Guam • Became a center of trade in the Pacific • Hawaii- • British attempted trade with Hawaii but would ultimately fail
