  2. With eight out of 14 highest peaks, Nepal has been a hunting paradise for trekking enthusiast. The mountain views are satisfying and hospitality is intriguing. Though it looks tempting, it is equally challenging and demanding. You must acquire the right information about the trek the trek you are intending to go for. Before that we are providing you the things you must need to know before trekking in Nepal. • There are numbers of information available online but here 5 things you must need to know before heading for the journey:

  3. Plan a contingency days: • As the weather of mountain is unpredictable in Nepal, you might get stuck for few days. So it always wise to have some contingency days. Mountain flights in Nepal often gets delayed and cancelled at times due to unfavorable weather or fog. It happens often on flight to Lukla during Everest Base Camp Trek. • You also need some extra days to acclimatize at high altitude. What if everything goes as planned and you return back to Kathmandu or Pokhara early. There are plenty of things to do around Kathmandu and Pokhara when the trek ends. From short hikes, sightseeing, cycling to spa and lavish shopping, it would occupy your leisure time.

  4. Local guides and porters: • We always suggest to hire a guide with you when going for trekking in Nepal. The guide knows the trekking route well and plans the trip accordingly. He is also well acquainted with local language, customs and traditions. • You can hire a porter if you intend to travel with loads of gears. The Sherpa (the mountain legends) can are living in high altitude for long time and are well acclimated. They can carry your heavy stuffs easily.

  5. Drinking water: • You can purchase bottled drinking water easily on any popular trekking routes in Nepal. There are some water stations which even provides purified water for a small price. However. If you like to drink local water, we suggest you to bring water purifier.

  6. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS): • AMS in high altitude happens when your body in not properly adapted to the lower oxygen levels. Expect for Annapurna Base Camp Trek route, all the trekking route above 3,000m is prone to altitude sickness. • Headache, stomach pain and dizziness are the basic symptoms of altitude sickness. The illness becomes fatal if you negate its symptoms. If you trek in gradual pace and gain short elevation (about 400m), stay hydrated and warm, eat healthy and get proper rest and sleep, AMS should be no problem at all. • Carry the medicines like Diamox of AMS but you may have side effects. It is good to descend down to lower altitude as quickly as you can.

  7. Trekking Gear: • A good pair of hiking boots, comfortable backpack and clothes are most trekking in Nepal. If you are intending to trek above 3,000m and crossing a high pass, you need to carry some other trekking gears like trekking poles, ropes, warm clothes, sleeping bag etc. It is good to check the requirements of treks and consult your guide before the journey.
