Do Classic cars require a MOT Test

Recent changes allowed exemption from the MOT test in case of a car older than 40 years or have not been through any substantial changes in the past 30 years. Yet these vehicles must be maintained at optimum conditions with regular servicing and required replacements for road safety.<br>

  1. Do Classic Cars Require A Mot Test In case you are confused about getting your classic car MOT tested, here lies an answer for you. As per the new changes introduced in May 2018, cars manufactured with a registration date older than 40 years do not require going through and passing the MOT test. Of course, some exemptions to this rule are there, and those cars falling in the exempted category must follow the MOT test checklist to pass it conveniently.

  2. The list of exemptions is as follows: (i.e. these cars will still need a valid MOT certificate for driving) ● ● ● If the car has been through a significant change in the previous 30 years. The car or vehicle is not registered as a Vehicle of Historical Interest. Vehicles with a maximum laden weight of 3.5 tonnes and buses and public service vehicles having 8 or more passenger seats. It is usually believed that the owners of classic cars enjoy maintaining the classic car to keep it in working condition and understand that the original parts will not be available in case of replacements. In case of any issues with vehicles or confusion about the applicability of MOT, such owners can check up with the authorised centres or experts at MOT Northampton. In MOT training courses or while becoming a certified technician, we at MOT experts provide complete knowledge and keep our technicians updated about the changes. In our CPD courses for certified testers, we include all the recent updations done in models and alternatives available for outdated versions. This helps them make the vehicle competent for passing the MOT test. These changes in rules do not allow classic cars with depleted conditions to be on the road. In such an incident, the owner is penalised with considerable amounts. These owners need to follow some essential MOT test checklists, such as proper servicing of car or bike once a year, maintenance of the condition of tyres at the stipulated tread of 1.6 mm, adequate working of all lights and optimum conditions of windscreens. In the MOT training course, we MOT experts put all our students through practical training, providing complete information on regular maintenance routines. At the centre of MOT Northampton, each student or technician is well trained and informed about the maintenance needs of a classic vehicle. Anyone going for a voluntary MOT test of a classic car can confirm and update the condition at MOT Northampton or a similar authorised centre.
