  4. Trommons The Translation Commons An open space owned by the community, powered by SOLAS, and maintained by The Rosetta Foundation.

What would we like to do? • Ensure use and take up of SOLAS • SOLAS to power the Translation Commons • Set up The Rosetta Open Source Project • Reassure users that SOLAS will never be taken away from them, locked into a patent, or charged for. • Encourage open source communities to contribute. • Ensure the sustainability and use of SOLAS. • Connect with existing developer communities • Make it easy for them to contribute • Make it easy for them to use SOLAS

  6. Which License? Can’t be locked away, but easier to connect with proprietary code. Maintain ‘provenance’. Same license for derivative work. Use for whatever purpose without any restrictions. LGPL Apache GPL

  7. Criteria… • Does it allow us to do what we want to do? • Is it well known and easily recognizable? • Who will it attract? • Similar projects • Use GPL licenses • OKAPI Framework (http://okapi.opentag.com) • Moses for Localization (M4LOC - code.google.com/p/m4loc/)
