Cities readiness initiative

Cities Readiness Initiative

  • Federal program to support planning for large scale dispensing of medical countermeasures

  • “Open” PODs primary method for public to receive medicine

  • “Closed” PODs will serve only specific populations

  • Hospitals will serve as Closed PODs to ensure business continuity

Exercise purpose

Exercise Purpose

  • Are hospitals prepared to receive, manage, and dispense medical countermeasures?

  • Identify Strengths/Barriers in communication, securing of facilities, and continuity of operations.


Exercise structure

Exercise Structure

  • Designed to accommodate ASPR & non-ASPR facilities

  • Interaction with MDCHD will last approximately 4 hours

  • Allow for both tabletop and full-scale play at hospital level.

  • Hotwash will be via electronic survey

  • AAC on April 15, 2011


Elements to consider

Elements to Consider

  • Contacts up to date?

  • ICP communications equipment operational? Accessible?

  • Surge is a potential in such a large scale event…

  • Vital contractors should be remembered

  • Single point delivery in the county is a reality
