  6. Textbook • “Dragonfly” Book=Biology -kept at home -covered and properly cared for

  7. Grades • Exams 50% • Quizzes 10% • Assignments 25% (Homework/Classwork/Labs) • Final Exam 10% • Participation 5% A: 90-100% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F: 59.4% and below

  8. Homework 3 Purposes: • Re-enforces and applies Science Standards learned in class. • Prepare students for exams/quizzes. • Informs the teacher whether students are understanding important concepts or whether re-teaching is necessary

  9. Check Your Child’s Stamp Sheet Gaps in between stamps indicate missing assignment(s)

Late Work • Late work is accepted for full credit with a late pass. • As long as it is completed • Turned in before Test Date • LATE passes -6 passes per quarter -12 per semester • Warm-ups cannot be made up; you must be present to participate La Serna High School Semester I 2008-09 LATE HW PASS #2 *Name___________________________ *Date____________________________ *This pass entitles the owner to turn in 1 LATE Homework assignment worth 10 points for FULL CREDIT. This pass must be used within one day of when the assignment was due. *Ms. Martinez WILL NOT accept late homework without a pass! Use them wisely.

  11. Absent Work • All absent work is accepted for EXCUSED ABSENCES ONLY. • How many days? For as many as the absence. ex Absent 2 days = 2 make-up work days. • Exams/Quizzes—must be made up the next day during Advisory. • Unforeseen circumstances? -e-mail me 

Make-up Labs • many labs require my supervision • done during Advisory (Period 8)—Request “Day Pass” • an alternative book assignment may be done instead Teachers, after student has attended your tutorial/study hall for a day, please place this form in the box of the current tutorial/study hall teacher to prove the student did in fact attend.   14. What is Tutorial? • During 1st half of lunch • A quiet place for students to work • One-on-one Teacher assistance • Opportunity to get work done

  15. -Usually every Friday. -Informs the teacher whether students are meeting the goals and objectives for the week. -Provides students with feedback on their performance for the week. -Absent? Make it up Monday, schedule an appointment! Quizzes

  16. -Usually every 2-3 weeks. -Covers lecture, labs, and homework. -Absent? Make it up the next day or make an appointment within the week Unit Exams

  17. Contact List • Your child has selected 4-5Biology Contacts • Contacts = phone numbers they can call for help after class. • DON’T ACCEPT ANY EXCUSE THAT THEY COULDN”T DO THEIR HOMEWORK BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T KNOW HOW. They should have asked someone for help.

Suggestions for Parents… • Ask and Check to see if work (hw/cw) was done and check for stamps. • Check your child’s La Serna planner. • Ask them what they learned in Biology each day. • Encourage students to come in for help during advisory/tutorial for extra one-on-one help. • Let students know you are proud and recognize their hard work when they do well. • Check grades on Aeries—updated every 2-3 weeks. • DO NOT accept excuses for failure.

  19. Biology Tutors • Extra help is available after school hours. • Tutors are teacher recommended. • Tutors are students who earned letter grades of “A” both semesters of Honors Biology last year. • Please e-mail me for a list of tutors.

  20. Academic Dishonesty Policy • Academic dishonesty of any sort WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. • ex copying hw, copying answers during an exam, talking during an exam, FORGED parent signatures, etc. • Consequences: • “0” on the assignment, • Parent notification • the incident will be recorded and placed in permanent records • Automatic “U” in citizenship.

  21. LSHS AeriesGradebook • Grades updated every 2-3 weeks. • Scores of Zero indicates missing work.
