  1. Longitudinal update A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  2. Last inputs for longitudinal studies : • 0.5 eV.s longitudinal emittance for all beams at injection • Emittance blow-up during acceleration for LAGUNA beams • Bunch shortening at extraction for SPS beams (4ns max) A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  3. Longitudinal Painting : • 2ms pulse from SPL (500 injection turns) • Energy offset -2 MeV • RF voltage at injection in HPPS : 1.1 MV with 90% momentum filling A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  4. Longitudinal Painting : A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  5. Acceleration : Magnetic field + Bdot for 50GeV acceleration - 20 ms injection / extraction - 3.5 T/s ramp rate A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  6. Acceleration : Acceleration of 0.5 eV.s bunch with constant 90% momentum filling. With nominal intensity of 1.6*1012 ppb We are below threshold at the end of cycle. -> Emittance blow-up needed A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  7. Acceleration with blow up : • Blow up during acceleration using formula : • Momentum filling of 80% during blow-up (transition from 90% to 80% at start) • Blow-up to 1eV.s at the limit of instability • Blow-up to 1.2 to 1.4 eV.s (final value according to detailed impedance calculations) A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  8. Acceleration with blow up : A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  9. Acceleration with blow up : A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  10. Acceleration with blow up : A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  11. Acceleration with blow up : A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13

  12. Acceleration for SPS beam: • No issue for this case. Due to lower intensity for injection in SPS we are above • instability all along the cycle with quiet comfortable safety margin without any • blow-up • - Bunch shortening voltage of around 400 kV at extraction A.Lachaize HPPS meeting 13/11/13
