  2. “And Though This World WithDevils Filled” • “and thou this world WITH DEVILS FILLED should threaten to undo us” • Devils and Satan originally existed as angels • Something went wrong in the angelic choir

  3. “And Though This World WithDevils Filled” • 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6 • Some of the angels “sinned” • Daimon = spirit, and always used negatively in the New Testament

  4. “And Though This World WithDevils Filled” • The leader is satan the “prince of demons” (Luke 11:14-15; 17-18) • Satan means adversary or opponent • Diabolos = devil, adversary or accuser

  5. “And Though This World WithDevils Filled” • These beings are active in the world • 2 Peter 2:4 ff pictures demons and people being kept in reserve or “chains” for judgment, but both are active in the world

  6. What Doth A Demon Do? • Distortion • They give a distorted view of reality regarding God and ourselves

  7. What Doth A Demon Do? • Genesis 3:1-13 • “crafty” or “tricky” • His deception works in two ways

  8. What Doth A Demon Do? • He distorts the person of God to humans • He seeks to undermine people’s trust in the nature and motives of God • Jesus gave us the word to overcome that misperception: FATHER

  10. What Doth A Demon Do? • Temptation is broader and deeper than we often consider • Satan has organized the world and the powers against God

  11. What Doth A Demon Do? • 1 John 5:19; John 14:30 • We have a whole system that plays to human weakness • 1 John 2:15-17

  12. What Doth A Demon Do? • Accusation • Revelation 12:10 • Satan is regularly accusing us before God

  13. The Mighty Fortress • Jesus came to destroy satan’s works (1 John 3:8) • The Spirit is actively drawing and revealing truth so people can come out of darkness

  14. The Mighty Fortress • God has given us power to overcome temptation and to wage war with the devil • We stand free from accusation • We have the power of God to cause demons to flee
