Approach • Identify windows of opportunity = achievable activities • All projects are implemented on the direct request of participating countries. • In close cooperation with authorities in the region and with regional and international organizations (OSCE, UNDP, UNEP, UNESCAP, European Union Water Initiative and the European Commission, IFAS, ICWC and EurAsEC) Convention of the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes

Perspectives • Future opportunities: EU Strategy for Central Asia, cooperation with Germany and other EU countries • Specific added value of ECE and of the Convention that defines its niche? => need to define a strategy => can the water/energy nexus be dealt with in a more efficient way? through a revised cooperation framework?
