  3. 83rd Legislature Regular Session • Friday, March 8, 2013 (60th day) Deadline for filing bills • Monday, May 27, 2013 (140th day) Last day of 81st Regular Session • Monday, August 26, 2013 (91st day following final adjournment) Date that bills without specific effective dates (that could not be effective immediately) become law

  6. What to expect in the future? • June TAPT Annual Conference in Lubbock • Present a compiled list of passed legislation affecting school bus transportation with their respective effective dates

  7. One Day Illegal Passing Survey (04-10-13) • Participation in National Pupil Transportation Survey • Tools & Driver Forms available on DPS School Bus webpage • Submit data via Survey Monkey by May 31, 2013

  8. Medical Self-Certification Deadline: January 30, 2014

  9. Medical Self-Certification • Applicable to all CDL holders (school bus drivers, coaches, principals, etc.) • Must certify by January 30, 2014 • Can change status at any time • As of November 2012: • 850,000 Texas CDL holders • 197,707 CDL drivers have certified (+23%)

  10. SESPTC Buster Bynum Scholarship $2,500 • Posted on TAPT website • Application deadline is May 31, 2013 • Award Guidelines: • 1. Gross Taxable Family Income equal to or less than $75,000 for • each of the past five years • 2. Parent/Guardian be active employee in public school transportation during the past five years. • 3. The student applicant above has at least a 3.0 (B) scholastic average, will graduate from a public high school, and will attend a postsecondary educational institution in the fall of 2013. • 4. Letters of reference
