  5. Insurance • We do not provide health insurance • You are highly encouraged to purchase your own policy • Student Health Center

  6. Captain’s Responsibilities • Proper sign-in with intramural official • 15-30 minutes before game time • WU ID card: must have decal, photo, name and WUID visible • ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!! • Assist intramural staff with potential situations • Schedules will be posted on IMLeagues • Check email/Facebook/Twitter pages for league updates

  7. Eligibility • All officially enrolled students, faculty and staff, are eligible to participate • Players may participate on ONE co-ed team while participating on ONE men’s or women’s team (Fraternity/Sorority teams are considered a men’s/women’s team) • No Olympic or former professional athletes that have competed in their respect sport within the past 5 years • NCAA varsity athletes are ineligible to compete in their sport or associated sports for an entire calendar year from the conclusion of that particular sports season

  8. Season • Max of 4 teams per division • New Schedule Format – 1 week regular season, 1 week playoffs • Games played Monday-Thursday nights 7pm-11pm • Teams will play 1-2 games a week • All games will be played in Sanders Sikes Gym • Some games may be played on Sundays • Some games may begin at 6pm

  9. Proper Attire • No jewelry • No hard casts • Knee braces are permitted with approved protective covers • Proper shoes are required • Athletic Attire Required(no khaki shorts/jeans)

  10. Safety Equipment - Goalies • Leg pads • Goalie stick • Helmet • Chest Protector • Blocker Pad • Baseball Glove

  11. Uniforms • Everyone on the team must wear the same color uniform • Bring 2 different color uniforms (One light, one dark), if you don’t, you must wear pinnies

  12. Protests • Only protests based on questions of player eligibility and rule interpretation will be accepted • No protests on judgment calls • At the time of the incident - once the puck is dropped, it cannot be protested

  13. Officials • Remember they are students too – they don’t deserve to be abused! • Can’t argue judgment calls • Respect the officials. Without them, we wouldn’t be playing. • Interested in officiating? Stay after this meeting

  14. Ejections • Ejections may occur before, during or after any contest • Ejections may be made by any Intramural staff member • Any ejected player must leave the playing area and facility immediately • It is YOUR responsibility to assist the Intramural staff in retrieving the ejected player’s identification • All ejected players must schedule an appointment to meet with Stephen Crespi before they can participate in ANY future intramural contests; suspensions will prohibit you from participating in all intramurals until reinstatement.

  15. Forfeits and Defaults • Forfeits • GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME • If a team forfeits 2 games, they will be dropped from the league and disqualified from playoffs • If a team forfeits their first game of the season, they will be dropped from the league unless they come and talk to the IM GA • Serves as a loss on the record • Will not be given conduct • Winning team will receive a 5 • Defaults • Email s.crespi@wingate.edu at least 24 hours before your game • Are allowed one per season • Will not affect your conduct rating • Will not be dropped from the league • Rescheduling • Please do not ask to reschedule your games – student workers are given hours to work at certain times and the gym has been reserved based on the signup times during the week

  16. Sportsmanship • Sportsmanship points are based on your team’s conduct during each contest • 1-5 Rating system per game • Teams must have an average of 3 points to be eligible for playoffs • Every flag football team qualified for the playoffs – keep this up • Ejections are maximum of a 1

  17. Playoffs • All teams receiving an average of 3 sportsmanship points, no more than 1 forfeit or default are eligible for playoffs • If a team drops below a 3 during the playoffs then they will be eliminated from the tournament • Games will not be played at the same times or days as the regular season so please check the schedules • NO players can be added to a roster once the playoffs begin!!!!

  18. Floor Hockey Rules • Rules will be emailed out to each captain and you can also check online at imleagues.com/wingate • NIRSA Floor Hockey rules govern all play not covered in Intramural rules • Supervisors will have final say on rule/judgement clarifications while on the court

  19. Players and Attire • Teams consist of 6 players including a goalie • MAX OF 10 ON ROSTER • Must have a minimum of 4 players to start • No Jewelry • Exceptions are Medical Bracelets • No hard billed caps, anything soft is legal • It is optional for goalies to wear a full facemask or helmet with a cage, though we recommend it. It is also recommended that they wear a chest protector, a protective glove or blocker on their stick hand, a catching glove on their non-stick hand, and leg guards/pads.

  20. Length of Game and Time Constraints • Game Time • Three (3) periods of twelve (12) minutes each • During the last two (2) minutes of the 3rd period, the clock will stop on each whistle unless a team is ahead by four (4) goals, in which case the clock will not stop • Two (2) minute intermission between periods • One timeout allowed per period • Mercy Rule • 10 goals at the end of the 2nd period or later

  21. Substitutions • Substitutions may be made during stoppages of play. Players entering the game must wait until the player leaving the floor is completely off the playing surface before entering. • Goalies may only be substituted for during a time-out, during intermission, due to an injury, or if an equipment change is necessary. • No substitutions on the fly

  22. Overtime • Any game ending in a tie during league play will remain a tie • Playoffs: Tiebreakers will consist of a five (5) minute running clock sudden death overtime. • If after five (5) minutes the score is still tied, the teams will go into a shoot out. A shoot out will consist of three (3) players from each team. • If score is still tied after the shoot out, teams will go into a sudden death shoot out. For the sudden death shoot out players will start at mid court and will consist of three (3) players from each team.

  23. Putting the Ball in Play • Play is started at the beginning of each period and after a goal has been scored by a face-off at the center floor dot. • All other occasions the face-off should be at the nearest face-off dot on the floor. • All players (except the two (2) involved in the face-off) must be at least ten (10) feet away from the face-off spot

  24. Violations • Result in face-off at nearest spot • Hand Pass • Kicking the Puck • Player in Goal Crease • Dangerous Play/Sliding • Goalie Possession of the Puck • Goalie throws ball to teammate past centerline • Goalie holds ball longer than 5 seconds • Ball out of play

  25. Minor Penalties • Duration 2 minutes or if a goal scored by opposing team • Tripping • Hooking • High-Sticking • Holding • Interference • Deliberate Delay of Game

  26. Major Penalties • 5 minute duration even if goal is scored • Personal Misconduct • Spearing Butt-Ending • Charging • Cross-Checking • Boarding • Slashing • Charging or cross-checking the goalkeeper • Throwing your stick at the ball or players • 2 major penalties result in an automatic ejection • Ejected players time served by teammate plus 2 minutes (total of 5 minutes)

  27. Scoring a Goal • Whenever the ball passes completely across the goal line, including while in the air, a goal is scored. • The ball may deflect off a player or equipment but cannot be kicked, thrown, or deliberately diverted into the goal by any other means than his/her stick. • Under no circumstances can a goal be counted on a foul by the offensive team. • A goal scored from a high stick shall not be allowed

  28. Penalty Shots • Result from: • Player throwing stick to obstruct shot • Obstruction of player with clear path to the goal in an attempt to stop a score • Intentional violation that stops a clear goal • Goalie throws equipment to stop ball • Process: Clock stops • Start on centerline and wait for Ref whistle • End with a goal, save or shot wide of goal • Goalie must remain in crease until player makes move with ball • Goalie violation results in another penalty shot

  29. Player Conduct • Slap Shot must be kept below waist including on follow through • Penalty: 2 minutes • Two Hands on Stick: Immediately after a player takes possession of the ball, he must have 2 hands on the stick. • Should a player obtain possession of the ball with one hand, his next motion immediately after he has the ball must be towards placing his free hand on the stick • Volation: Face off in own zone.

  30. Co-Rec • 6 players including the goalie • If 6, must play with 3 guys and 3 girls • If 5, can play 3 girls, 2 guys or 2 girls, 3 guys • Must have 4 (including goalie) to avoid forfeit with 2 guys and 2 girls • Girl goals are worth 2 • In playoffs, penalty shot OT all goals are worth 1 including girls • MERCY RULE: 10 goals at the end of the 2nd period or later

  31. Sign-Up Process • IMLEAGUES.com/wingate sign-up process • Add your teammates to your roster, many of you have done this already • Schedules will be posted by the end of the week and you will be notified when they are up • 1 week regular season 1 week playoffs

  32. Intramural Jobs • Officials for Intramural Sports are needed • Flexible hours • No Friday or Saturday games • Officials: $7.25 per game • Fall Sports: Flag Football and Floor Hockey • Spring Sports: Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer • Meeting for Floor Hockey Officials: 7:30 following this meeting

  33. Indoor Soccer • New Sport This Year • Likely 7 on 7 • Signups Nov. 4-11 • Captain’s Meeting Nov. 11 at 4:30pm • Same 2 week season structure • Regular Season – week before Thanksgiving • Playoffs – week following Thanksgiving
