  2. Commencement of the Programme: Sept. 2001 • Beneficiaries: Orphans and Children of Existing TASO Clients • Location of Project: All the 7 TASO Centres 2

  3. Skills Trained in: • Tailoring • Motor Vehicle/ Cycle Mechanics • Carpentry • Catering • Saloon Management • Plumbing • Electrical Installation • Building and Concrete Practice • Welding • Agriculture 3

  4. Key Activities • Identification of institutions for Apprenticeship training began in Sept. 2001 • Selection of children by Centre Committees commenced in Sept.2001 • Placement of Children in institutions and payment of Tuition began in Oct. 2001 • Parent/Guardians workshops are carried out by all centres during school holidays • LIFE skills workshops are conducted during every school holiday. 4

  5. Cont… • Follow up visits to the institutions are conducted by TASO counsellors regularly • Provision of toolkits is being done in Dec.2002 • Children will be visited by TASO counsellors and supported to practise their skills over a period of 2 years 5

Support Package to children • Tuition • Scholastic materials • Toolkits • Counselling of Children and parents/guardians • Medical Care • Insurance Cover • Life skills training • Provision of Youth friendly sexual and reproductive health information • Provision of bicycles to non-boarding students 6

  7. Outputs • 52 institutions identified for provision of Training • A total of 832 children (480 males and 352 females) supported in the 7 Centres. Breakdown by Centre • Mbarara- 119 • Masaka- 116 • Entebbe- 99 • Mulago- 126 • Jinja- 125 • Tororo- 127 • Mbale- 120 7

  8. Cont… • 15 Parent/Guardian Workshops conducted • 15 Life skills workshops held • 862 Support visits made by the Counsellors to the training institutions • Toolkits provided to 832 children. 8
