  1. Let's Get Acquainted:First Things First!(Regardless of what you might have heard about me!) • I am your class Instructor,Dr. MilivojeKostic [Millivoye Kostich], Professor of Mechanical Engineering • Welcome to the Class !

  2. Let's Get Acquainted:First Things First (2) • I wish you a productive semester, lot of success, and fun if possible • I promise to do my best and be ... • resourceful, • understanding, • respectful, and • equally fair to all. • In return, I am expecting the same from you!

  3. We have the same goals and objectives: To help you learn the subject and achieve as much as possible… … in order to become, as good and as fast as possible, professionals - the engineers or other majors!

  4. We may have conflict of interest: • You may want to do it with as little work as possible? • But, we have to accomplish as muchas possible!

  5. Let’s be Professional: • There is a minimum expectation for achievement, • regardless of over-all class performance and “curve-fitting” adjustments • Professional ethics is equally important • no cheating and unjustifiable excuses, etc...

  6. You are expected to: • Be enthusiastic and involved • Actively participate in all class activities • Accomplish all reading, homework and project assignments • Spend about 10-12 hours per subject per week • Work hard and smart

  7. It is important to: • Challenge yourself, not only to remember, but to fully understand the subject • Read, think to comprehend, and discus the subject matter with your colleagues, TA, and Instructor • It is possible… • …in my classes students do get As and Bs • …but also students fail my classes because they are not involved and do not work hard and smart.

  8. For the Record: • You may interrupt me any time during the lecture to express you concerns and doubts • I will always answer your questions and give you help or hints how to resolve them • I may ask you to work on your question in order to challenge you first, before providing a full answer and/or result ...

  9. For the Record (2): • The only relevant matter for your grade is your academic accomplishment • You are also expected to be respectful and responsible ... … a professional in one word!

  10. Further Information ... … will be provided in class, and … are/will be provided on my Web site: and NIU Blackboard … and, will be updated all the time. Best wishes for a productive and successful semester www.kostic.niu.edu
