  1. Tower Bridge of London Brandi R. & Shanika H. “Bridging Academy”

  2. The history behindthis bridge ? Plans for the Tower Bridge were invented around 1876 when the east of London became very crowded & a bridge across the Thames in that area of the city seemed necessary. The tower bridge was built and completed on River Thames, London of June 30th 1894.

  3. What makes this amazing bridge? • The Tower is a movable suspension bridge that opens in the middle; like an intersection which allows ships to come through. • In the two Towers of the bridge they have so many cool things to do they host weddings, they form meetings, there’s sight seeing taking place. It’s a lot you can do. • Every year they change the beautiful light settings and colors. This allows the Tower bridge to stand out from the others. • London's Tower Bridge is one of the most recognizable bridges in the world. With Its Victorian Gothic style. The designers wanted to create a structure that would be in harmony with the nearby Tower of London.

  4. The inventor(s) behind this mastermind ! • The bridge, designed by city architect Horace Jones in collaboration with John Wolfe Barry. Horace Jones, an English architect began his practice in London in 1843, and designed numerous commercial buildings Before being elected Architect and surveyor to the city of London in 1864. (sir) John Wolfe Barry was an engineer.

  5. “Impacts of this bridge’’ • The effects of global warming cause London to flood under a terrifying deluge of water. Environmental London’s Tower Bridge is not only a major tourist attraction but also an exceptional achievement of engineering and architecture. In 2011, GE set out to design an innovative lighting system to illuminate the towers and accentuate the bridge’s metal framework — while simultaneously increasing energy efficiency. A mix of modern and traditional, this info graphic highlights GE’s work and the bridge’s storied history. Social

  6. Math behind the “Tower Bridge “ 8 years was involved in the construction of this bridge. = 450 laborers/ 5 contractors = 2 enormous pillars (towers) {11,000 tons of steel } Type: movable (bascule) suspension Architecture concept: suspension Length: 880 ft Above the Thames the towers rise 200ft. Materials: steel, masonry Longest single span: 200 ft

  7. Tourist injured, North Tower lift 10 ft. • The London “Tower Bridge” north tower lift, had a horrible accident on May 9, 2009. Which left six people injured. The north tower lift felled at least 30 ft. inside shaft, and caused broken ankles, legs to the six injured travelers, tourist.

  8. Approximately how many cars use this bridge each week or year? What were some special challenges engineers faced? How did they overcome? The tower bridge of London has great strength, it’s weight limit is 17 tones. 40,000 cars tend to cross the bridge every day. Also it opens 900 times for river traffic. This tower Bridge made it easier for pedestrians to cross the bridge. The Thames river, was very shallow, so engineers had to find a way to make this a moveable, horizontal axis (bascule) bridge. In order for the ships to come through, they accomplished this difficult task.
