  2. Animals The black panther- an adult panther can weigh from 100 to 250 pounds. Puerto Rican Parrot- They are about 11 inches long and about 10 ounces in weight. Sirajo Goby –They feed by scrapping algae of rocks

  3. Places to see Castile de San Felipe del Morro- It’s a 6 level citadel, or castle. El Yunque-It’s a national rainforest. Culebrita-You have to take a water taxi or a private boat to get there.

  4. Literature Maria Bibiana Benitez- She was Puerto Rico’s first poetess and playwright. In 1832 she published her first poem called “La Ninfa de Puerto Rico.” Francisco Arrivi- He was known as “The father of the Puerto Rican Theater.” One of his greatest works was “Bolero y plena.” Giannina Braschi-She is credited with writing the first Spanish novel YO YO BOING!

  5. Government Puerto Rico has a commonwealth government and is associated with the United States. This government exists to protect the welfare of the citizens as a whole than a small privileged class(like nobility and kings). The U.S. controls the interstate trade, foreign relations and commerce. The U.S. also controls military bases, army, navy, and air force.

  6. Large cities San Juan- It’s population is 442,447. Bayamon-It’s population is 203,499. Carolina-It’s population is 186,076.

  7. Culture Puerto Rico has racial mix. They have similar food to Spanish, Cuban, and Mexican cuisine. The type’s of music they have are Classical, Folk, Bamba y Plena, and Salsa.

  8. History In 1900 Puerto Rico surrendered to the United States by military force. In 1908 Driving Licenses began to be issued. On April 2nd 1943, the U.S. senator Tydings introduces bill to congress calling for independence for Puerto Rico.

  9. Geography It’s located in the archipelago Antilles. Which is a chain of islands that stretch 1,500 miles from Florida to Venezuela. Puerto Rico is divided into three geographic groups: Central Interior Mountain ranges Northern Karts Coastal Plains
